My friend’s birthday

My dear friend Eileen had a major birthday this year – it wasn’t 50 and it isn’t yet 70!  Her birthday was in May but she’s celebrating on June 30.

I considered getting a present, but couldn’t think what would be appropriate. And then I thought, of course, a gift to her favorite charity! So I emailed her. She called me within the hour to say, “That’s a wonderful idea. It”s touching.”

“So what charity?” I said. She didn’t hesitate: American Cancer Society. She named a few of her favorite relatives who’ve been affected by this disease.

So I’ve just made the gift and filled out the info for a print card which they will send her. I usually would do email thinking of the environment, but this is a special birthday and I wanted her to have a card in print to put with the many other cards she’ll receive!

It took less than a minute, even counting the time I had to run to the other room for my wallet with the credit card inside. And I know it’s a gift she will treasure!
