Neil Gaiman explains why we need libraries

Neil Gaiman explains why we need libraries. His post also tells me why books as gifts are a great investment. I mean books as gifts to give and get, for you and your children or grandchildren! Christmas is an ideal time.

Gaiman is talking about the importance of teaching children to read, and read for pleasure. You can introduce your child or grandchild to the pleasure of giving while you reinforce the joy of reading with a gift to your local library. Mine is Westport Connecticut. Where is yours?

If your children already know the joy of reading, they might want to consider a gift for a child who doesn’t have access to books. I love the name of this organization. So will your children or grandchildren. You can make a gift when your grandchild is already in his or her pajamas. Take a photo as you make the gift.

Or they can give the books they’ve outgrown. An easy, environmentally friendly, and important to give is to the Vietnam Veterans of America who will pick up your donations. They love to have used children’s books.

Thanks to Gabi Coatsworth for this post.

Happy holidays.
